A Chefs' Guide to Eating Out in New Orleans
"If you’re going to take somebody to something fancy, show them Galatoire’s in the French Quarter. Bring them to the Friday lunch, and order so many things: the pommes soufflées (crispy twice-fried potato wedges); the café brûlot (a boozy hot coffee drink, served flaming in a chafing dish); and the trout amandine (fried with a butter, lemon, and almond pan sauce)—all super-traditional New Orleans. And if the restaurant has the soft-shell crabs on the menu, you’ve got to get them."

New Orleans Spots for Fresh Gulf Seafood
"While most New Orleans seafood restaurants take a hyper-local approach to fill in the catch of the day, chef-owner Tenney Flynn at GW Fin casts a global net. The French Quarter restaurant impresses with quality and variety, including fish caught in waters around the world as well as right here in the Gulf. Chef de cuisine Michael Nelson's menu changes daily, depending on what's fresh and seasonal, but you might feast on King crab from Alaska, sea scallop crudo with local caviar and Scottish salmon with jalapeno glaze."

27 Best Restaurants in New Orleans
"At first glance, GW Fins looks like typical French Quarter fine dining, but it’s the innovative approach to seafood that really sets it apart from its peers. Chef Tenney Flynn changes the entrées daily, depending on what maritime delights his dockside sources have for him. The most sought-after dish, though, is the Scalibut, a halibut and scallop combination that’s a true original."

Unlikely Kid-Friendly Restaurants in New Orleans
"The Italian Barrel is a cozy, romantic restaurant that features authentic Northern Italian Fare, tucked away in the French Quarter near the Old U.S. Mint. While most children can appreciate spaghetti and meatballs or a chicken parmesan, the plates might be too filling for little ones or too delicious to share. By request, the chef can accommodate a smaller portion of pasta for children, and, even better, they can customize it by picking the type of pasta (penne, spaghetti, fusilli) and the sauce (tomato, white cream, butter, or cheese)."

Vegetarian Destinations in the French Quarter
"Intimate and candlelit, with brick walls and cozy tables, this corner restaurant with sidewalk seating provides all the romance you’d expect from an Italian spot. The tomatoes and basil bruschetta is mouth-tinglingly fresh, and a creamy truffle and porcini sauce blankets excellent, house-made ravioli, but you can’t go wrong with almost any menu option. (Tip: Reservations recommended.)"

The Best New Orleans Itinerary: 3 Days in New Orleans
"While you could easily spend another day or two in the heart of the city, I recommend getting out to the countryside and seeing another part of Louisiana: the Bayou. Most swamp tours are located at least an hour outside of the center and offer round trip transport at an extra charge. We went with Cajun Encounters on aboat ride through the famous Honey Swamp. While on the tour, we spotted multiple (!!) alligators as well as several species of birds, raccoons, and more."

Louisiana Distillers
"Opened in 2017 in the Garden District, Lula is New Orleans’ only Creole/Southern restaurant with an in-house distillery. Partner Jess Bourgeois, formerly of Commander’s Palace, handles the restaurant while co-owner Bear Caffrey, a Baton Rouge ER doctor with a penchant for chemistry, oversees the distillery. To open a combined full service restaurant with a micro-distillery, Bourgeois and Caffrey had to seek approval through House Bill 233, which passed in the summer of 2015, paving the way for future restaurant-distillery concepts in Louisiana."

Cheers
"This stylish yet rustic micro-distillery produces small-batch, handcrafted vodka made from Louisiana sugar cane. The smooth and clean spirit has the soft finish of a cane vodka. Also available is a molasses- and raw-sugar-based rum that is batch fermented and distilled, and gin steeped with botanicals like juniper, coriander, angelica root and citrus peel."
